MY WORK

As a freelance media and communications specialist, I divide my time across a number of projects both short term and long term. Here's a few examples of some successful projects I have managed that I am able to talk about.

Rural Exchange (REX)

SM campaign example

An example of a successful Social Media campaign with REX was a three-week long campaign to celebrate the International Day of Rural Women, working alongside key stakeholders ASB and Dairy Women's Network.

Across Rural Exchange, REX Today, the TodayFM digital website and SM, we featured 14 interviews in a "rural women's spotlight" of inspiring rural women in the sector from all walks of life, including celebrity Chef Nadia Lim, Boring Oat Milk founder Morgan Maw, Women's Rugby first Nicky Ewins and more. Accompanying the campaign was a SM competition encouraging rural women to celebrate each other and share it with us to win a major prize.

As set up producer, I contributed to REX Today's win of the the Ko Tātou This Is Us Biosecurity Journalism Award at the NZ Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators, alongside host Dominic George.

NZ Young Farmers

Media campaign example

Part of this role involved managing the media and communications strategy for one of the country’s most prestigious agricultural competitions; FMG Young Farmer of the Year. During season 54, I drove wall-to-wall coverage of the Contest Series across all rural newspapers and regional media.

Ahead of Grand Final, all seven grand finalists were interviewed on national rural radio shows including Newstalk ZB's The Country, SENZ The Rural Roundup, TodayFM's REX Today and Rural Exchange and NZME's Country Sport. Media coverage also included a 12 page feature for Farmers Weekly written solely by myself to promote Grand Final, the contestants and the Contest Series.

At Grand Final practical day, a successful pitch saw William Waiirua broadcasting live on site for AM on Three, showing the Contest Series to the nation.

Press Releases and interviews of winners of the contestant series were also picked up by all rural media outlets and some mainstream media.

Journalism

As a journalist I covered many pivotal events, from the Christchurch terror attacks, the Tasman fires, Pike River Mine re-entry, Sir Colin Meads’ funeral, elections and High Court Trials to many weather events from snow storms to droughts.
